The Academy
An immersive residential programme designed for adults with a passion for the ocean but without a formal science background.

We have an amazing opportunity for you!
A carefully selected cohort of 10 will get the chance to participate in the first ever Ocean Advocate Academy, taking place on 2nd – 8th March 2026.
The Academy will be a week long residential, part land-based and part boat-based. The Academy will begin in Plymouth. We have teamed up with the Ocean Conservation Trust who will be delivering an in-depth program at the National Marine Aquarium. Including behind-the-scenes tours, exploratory rock-pooling and snorkelling. Try hands-on citizen science and learn more from the Ocean Conservation Trust about their amazing conservation projects.
Back at the team shared accommodation in Plymouth, the cohort will gather for team-building and focused workshops to support the development of their projects. Learn how to manage a project, funding options and how to build the confidence you need to take action. Hear from inspiring individuals who have made a difference in their own way and stepped up to reach their full potential.
Part 2 of the Academy will kick-off in Portsmouth, where we’ll be teaming up with Tall Ships Youth Trust. We’ll be boarding a 72-foot Challenger yacht. Build your connection to the ocean and learn how to sail as we set off on our adventure – no experience necessary!
Life on board is hands-on and you’ll be expected to help with cooking, sailing and the general day-to-day tasks that take place on a yacht. It’s also cramped! You’ll be sleeping in berths (fixed bunks) with little space….all part of the adventure! Our time on board will be spent be exploring the coastlines of England, learning about conservation efforts and continuing our confidence-building workshops.
